Forum Title: Cabinet spraying hvlp info appreciated
Names Jim, have been trying to find specific answers to my cabinet refinishing issues... i use a capsray 115 with the maxum 2 elite. I use the no. 3 projection set; aircap needle tip. I am thinking i should be using the number 4 set up. Is 4 better than 3 for spraying bm aura satin im thinning it with extendor. I do about a 20% extender . I use bin primer. I like the aura due to dry time. Anyways on the maxum elite i turn air knob to 12 0 clock and material knob 2.5 turns. I try to do what i can so it becomes automatic but seem to be having issues, about a door a job where ill have to do a touch up and re spray door. And like half the time i run into probs. Some of these problems i dont understand what they mean like: 1 the finsh if tilted in light isnt mirror smooth its like speckled evenly with tiny little dots of muted sheen. 2 is when finish coat dries there is like a chain like pattern throughout the finsh. This has haunted me the most.....not sure if im putting on too heavy or too much extender etc etc any insight is greatly appreciated and also if you have any tell tale symptoms of too much extender or too little, anything will help.

I think the speckling is due to too small a tip 3 hence my wanting to go to 4
