Forum Title: Need advice. Exterior handrails.
About to start a job building a small set of handrails for a small concrete stoop or porch. I have done several jobs for this HO so I took this job. He does want the wood stained and varnished. I will be using 4'4 post with 2'4 cross beams to hold balusters. Only the 4'4s & 2'4s will be stained and varnished. My question is since I am staining and varnishing those should I still get pressure treated wood?

Pressure treated wood can accept stain in a strange way. Sometimes it can look ok but you would still want some of the chemicals to out gas before any finish. Stain and finish would not make pressure treated wood a requirement.
